About Markdown Bench

Markdown Bench is a small, independent tool for turning Markdown into the formats people are asked for most: PDF, Word, HTML and plain text. It was built after one too many afternoons spent deleting asterisks out of documents that started life as a README or an AI chat.

Design principles

• Local first. Conversion happens in your browser using open-source libraries (marked for parsing, docx for Word output, DOMPurify for sanitising the preview). No server ever sees your text.
• Faithful output. A Word file should be a real Word file — with heading styles, list numbering and tables that behave — not an HTML page renamed to .docx.
• No dark patterns. No account, no daily limit, no watermark, no "Pro" button hiding the real download.

What it doesn't do

It converts from Markdown only. It does not render LaTeX math or Mermaid diagrams, embed images into Word files, or convert PDF and .docx back to Markdown. If you need those, Pandoc is excellent and free.
